New Zealand-based aluminium beverage can maker Recorp is now supplying customers in Australia. It can ship various can sizes from its factory in South Auckland, and is pitching its flexible production, low minimum order quantities and high recycled aluminium content as main selling points for Australian drink brands.
Recorp serves Australian buyers out of its 16,000-square-metre plant in Manukau, South Auckland. The site started operations in November 2024 after a NZD 115 million (USD 89.54 million) investment, with an annual capacity of roughly 550 million cans.
The line can hit 1,850 cans per minute. It has eight bodymakers and two decorators, built to switch quickly between different can heights and diameters.
For Australian customers, Recorp offers multiple can styles: 250ml Slim, 330ml Sleek, plus Classic cans in 330ml, 375ml, 440ml and 500ml. The Classic range can be fitted with either 200 or 202 diameter ends.
Thanks to the plant’s flexible setup, Recorp can accept smaller order runs and shorten lead times. This works well for small beverage makers, or bigger companies testing new items, since they don’t need to commit to large stock volumes upfront. The firm hasn’t published the exact MOQ numbers.
Rob Fyfe, founder and chairman, said flexibility was built into the factory design from day one.
“The plant is built to support lower minimum orders. Brands can test new products without heavy upfront spending,” he explained.
This helps small and mid-sized brands scale up, while giving larger firms more room to try out new drink concepts.
Fyfe used to be Air New Zealand’s CEO. He set up Recorp with funding from private New Zealand investors. Bruce Parton, another ex-Air New Zealand executive and the company’s CEO, is leading expansion across Australia and New Zealand.
Recorp is also launching its ReCan85 can, made with 85% recycled aluminium.
The business says this is one of the highest recycled-content beverage cans available in Australasia, while the global industry average sits around 60–65%.
The recycled metal comes from post-consumer used drink cans. Under Recorp’s New Zealand supply model, collected cans are processed overseas first, then the recycled aluminium is sent back to the Auckland factory for new can production.
Recycled content is becoming a key factor for beverage packaging. For example, Australian producer Visy started an 18-month trial back in 2025 for aluminium cans with an average recycled content of 83%.
Parton said Recorp’s bigger goal is to grow aluminium’s share in the single-serve drinks market, especially where plastic and glass bottles are currently dominant.
Even though this is called an Australian market launch, Recorp has no plans to build a factory inside Australia for now. Australian beverage brands will keep getting supply from Recorp’s New Zealand production and customer support team.
